Vocational training and job preparedness.
Fundaninos is committed not just to providing our children with a happy life while they are here, but also to preparing them for future and giving them the skills they need to be a successful productive adult.
To that end we have partnered with Timothy Martiny of the “Small beginnings Greater Ends” foundation to provide job specific, up to date computer training to those students who are interested.
In 2010 the first class of 4 teenage girls received their own laptops and now progress through a daily curriculum learning English, touch typing, computer training and secretarial skills. They receive weekly classes to reinforce their skills and will receive assistance looking for a job when they have completed the course.
Sixty-three percent of women in Guatemala work in the informal sector, tienda’s, domestic work or comedores, it is our hope and sincere desire that by giving these girls the opportunity to develop their technology skills and learn English that we are providing them with the means to take the first step to a better life.
We plan to expand this program to all of our students as they become of age, but in order to do so we need decent laptops, if you would like to donate a laptop, preferably not less than 5 years old to one of our students it would be greatly appreciate and make a lasting difference in the lives of our children.
